Market myths
The false beliefs that cost people money. · ⏱ 4 min
Myths feel like common sense — that’s what makes them dangerous. A few big ones:
- “News drives the market.” — in our research the news logic was right only half the time a month after big events.
- “Cheap shares are safer.” — a Rs. 50 share can still go to zero. Look at the company, not the price.
- “This stock can never fall.” — any stock can fall, big banks included.
- “Operators control everything.” — no one can push high-volume stocks for long. This excuse stops people learning.
- “Upper circuit means guaranteed profit.” — buyers at the circuit often get stuck at the top.
- “The market always comes back fast.” — NEPSE still hasn’t beaten its 2021 peak of 3,227.
